One Month Later

It’s been a month since my surgery.

Surprisingly, I haven’t experienced much pain—especially compared to what I see every time my dressing is changed every two or three days. Looking down at an open wound is something I’ll never forget.

For most of this journey, I’ve been tethered to a wound Vac. As inconvenient as it’s been, I’m incredibly grateful for this technology. It’s helped speed up the healing process, and thankfully, I’ve had no complications.

I’m able to walk, climb stairs, cook a few meals and live a semi-normal life. I still have more healing ahead of me, but every week brings progress.

One of the most encouraging parts of this experience has been seeing the reactions from my doctors and nurses. At every appointment, they express surprise and relief at how well the wound is healing. Hearing those words has lifted my spirits and eased not only my own worries, but my family’s as well.

Healing isn’t always measured by how far you have left to go. Sometimes it’s measured by taking a moment to look back and realize just how far you’ve come.

For that, I am truly grateful.
